Morning Matters:

Morning Matters Portfolio Update
by Geoff Garbacz

November 9, 2018

For 2018, the S&P 500 is higher by 2.48% from a week ago. For the year, it is higher by 4.98% from 2.50%. So far this year the Morning Matters Portfolio is higher by 3.67% from 3.28% a week ago.

The Russell 2000 for 2018 is higher by 2.78% from 0.62% last week. The Nasdaq Composite is above 7500 from 7400 since our last update, higher for the week. The Dow moves back above 26000 since our last update.

The portfolio is now 50% invested long, 0% short and 50% in cash, net long 50%. For 2017, the value of the portfolio was 970.84%. So far in 2018, the portfolio value is 1007.83% from 1003.80%. For the year, we are up 3.67% from 3.28% a week ago.

Year to date we have been roughly 50% invested as well and as such our return should be 2.49% and we are up 3.20%. You can sleep well with our portfolio.

For a listing of all trade both open and closed simply look under Portfolio on the left hand side of the website. We added a new buy in Micron a couple weeks ago. Current names in the portfolio include:

Ford (F) Viacom (VIAB) Blackberry (BB) China via FXI AT&T (T) Micron (MU)

We closed out Exxon (XOM) as the price of oil appears to be started a bear market that could see its price drop to $40. If the occurs, Exxon will be trading in the $60. So we exited with a small loss of less than a $1. There were also four dividend payments in the time we owned the stock so it was a winner even though we will track as a small loser.

Dividends are not included in our results unless there is a special one time payment.
