Morning Matters:

The Week Ahead Sees Foreign Central Bank Action On Thursday

The Russell 2000, S&P 100, NASDAQ 100 and Dow Jones Industrial Average were all lower for the week. The Big Picture [monthly bias] for the NASDAQ 100, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, Russell 2000 and the S&P 100 remain positive.

1.Geopolitical and Fiscal Events. Wednesday sees the Federal Reserve out with its latest Beige Book survey. Thursday sees the ECB and BOE out with announcements. 2.Economic Releases. Releases of note this week and next include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and jobless claims as well as PPI, CPI, retail sales, industrial production and University of Michigan Sentiment. 3.Earnings Releases. Notable releases this upcoming week include CASY SONO ORCL ADBE KR PLAY.

Monday, September 10

AT&T (T) holds its investor meeting and will discuss the merger with Time Warner.

Tuesday, September 11

Hewlett Packard (HPQ) holds its investor meeting and investors are looking for some good news as the stock has struggled recently.

Wednesday, September 12

The Federal Reserve Beige Book is out with its latest update at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

August PPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 0.2% from 0.1%.

The latest short interest data for the NYSE and NASDAQ is due out after the close.

Apple (AAPL) holds a meeting to review its new products for the fall and is recently peaked. Could this be a case of buy the rumor and sell the news?

Thursday, September 13

The European Central Bank (ECB) is due out at 7:45 a.m. EDT and then hosts a press conference at 8:30 a.m. EDT.

The Bank of England (BOE) is out with its latest release before markets open.

August CPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to remain at 0.20%.

A.J. Gallagher (AJG) holds its investor meeting and looks to maintain its upside price action.

UPS (UPS) holds their Transformation Conference and investors hope that shares can continue to move higher.

Friday, September 14

August Retail Sales is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 0.4% from 0.5%.

August Industrial Production is due out at 9:15 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 0.4% from 0.1%.

September University of Michigan Sentiment is due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 97 from 96.20.
