Morning Matters:

Weekly Timing Chart Of The S&P 500

We are updating our look at the S&P 500 via our favorite chart of SPY through Tuesday's close.

The Weekly Displaced Moving Average (DMA) Channel (Yellow Band) sees the current price in the channel. As such, bias is now neutral with SPY in the channel.

Second, the Erlanger Volume Swing (EVS) is at -0.87 from 10.59. Above 0 is good and below 0 is bad. The current action is now back to negative.

Third, the Erlanger Crossover Spread (EC) Spread is back to positive as well at 15.51 from 16.60.

Last, the Erlanger Trend Direction (ETD) moves from rally mode to uptrend.

class="article">So what is an investor to do here? We would recommend to sell the biggest winners that are starting to pullback.

Positioning in our Morning Matters Portfolio off this chart and several other indicators moved to 100% cash on February 28th (see Flash Alert #446). We have started adding new buys and are 33% invested.

Market Matters:

Stocks Futures Lower On The S&P 500

Market Tone: Stocks have been fading gains since last Friday. Same thing yesterday as the S&P 500 high was 3476 and closed at 3443. Once the market can put stimulus behind it then normal trading can return only to get volatile again election week. Volatility remains a clear and present issue. The deadline for a stimulus deal put in place by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the weekend has come and gone yet we are still talking about the deal. Can you say “kicking the can down the road”.
