Morning Matters:

The Week Ahead

The NASDAQ 100, Dow Jones Industrial Average, Russell 200 and S&P 500 were lower for the week.

1.Geopolitical and Fiscal Events. The evasive stimulus bill will drive headlines for a fourth week as the House and Senate return to work this week. There are multiple Federal Reserve speakers this week.

2.Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and jobless claims as well as NFIB Small Business Optimism Index, JOLTS Survey, PPI and CPI.

3.Earnings Releases. Notable releases this upcoming week include LULU COUP ZS HDS ORCL CHWY PTON KR.

Monday, September 7

Markets are closed in the U.S. for Labor Day.

Tuesday, September 8

NFIB Small Business Optimism Index is due out at 6:00 a.m. EDT and came in last month at 98.80.

Wednesday, September 9

JOLTS is due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and came in last month at 5.889 million. Thursday, September 10

August PPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 0.3% from 0.6%.

The European Central Bank (ECB) holds its latest meeting and no change is expected.

Friday, September 11

August CPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to fall to 0.3% from 0.6%.

Stocks Futures Are Lower By -43 On The S&P 500

Quick Thoughts: Colorado is getting hit with an early snowstorm. Investors have turned cold to tech stocks. After five straight up months we were due for some weakness. Expect more liquidity as players return from summer vacations.
