The Week Ahead
1. Geopolitical and Fiscal Events. Wednesday sees minutes out from the Bank of England.
2. Economic Releases. Releases of note this week include the weekly chain store sales, oil/gas numbers, mortgage applications and jobless claims include existing home sales, CPI, leading indicators and new home sales.
3. Earnings Releases. Notable releases include (in order of day’s reporting with Tuesday first and Friday last AAPL IBM VZ KO T BA MSFT AMZN PG UPS among others companies as we continue Q3 earnings.
Monday, October 20
Monday night Chinese retail sales, industrial production and GDP are due out at 9:00 p.m. EDT. Tuesday, October 21
September Existing Home Sales are due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 5.10 million from 5.05 million.
Wednesday, October 22
September CPI is due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and is expected to rise to 1.1% from 0.2%. Bank of England (BOE) latest minutes are due out at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
Thursday, October 23
September Leading Indicators are due out at 10:00 a.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 0.7% from 0.2%.
Friday, October 24
September New Home Sales are due out at 8:30 a.m. EDT and are expected to rise to 468,000 from 504,000. The latest short interest data from the NYSE and NASDAQ is due out after the close.

Yesterday saw 2049 stocks rise and 1061 fall on the NYSE. NASDAQ saw 1356 rise and 1377 fall.
The SP 500 is under its 50 day exponential moving average and is below the 200 day exponential moving average. The Russell 2000 remains below its 50 day moving exponential average and its 200 day exponential moving average as well.
The 10 day spread moving average of breadth is now in cash. The Madison Market Timing Indicator is now invested.

Nikkei Rockets Higher As Does Oil
Stocks in Japan had their biggest day in 16 months as they rose 3.99%. Last Friday the Nikkei Stock Average hit correction mode dropping -10%. This morning Japan's Government Pension Investment Fund is raising its allocation to Japaneses stocks to 25%. Shorts scrambled.
Brent crude has been trading in a wide range today as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) Crude gains for a third day as Iran interjects itself into the price discussion.
