Short Refuse To Put Both Feet In The Water

Short interest numbers for the NYSE were reported for the period of settlement date May 11th on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. Short interest numbers have risen to 15,734,003,157 from 15,750,489,163 shares (revised) for an increase of 0.22%. NYSE and NASDAQ overall short interest have risen in 56 of the last 126 reporting periods with short intensity remaining below average to average. Short interest numbers for NASDAQ are reported for the period of settlement date May 11th. Short interest numbers have fallen to 8,203,527,793 from 8,273,576,557 shares for a decrease of -0.35%.

During this collection period on a trade date basis (4/26 through 5/11) the S&P 500 rose by 2.28% to close at 2727.72. The conclusion is shorts added lightly to positions with the S&P 500 rising in the latest collection period.
